I think that, in context, it means two things. First of all, taking us all the way back to Ephesiansit means that part of being filled with the Spirit is praying in the Spirit. There the prayers are sung to God through songs, hymns and spiritual songs, but they are prayers nonetheless.
So as we sing here on Sunday Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenliesif you really get your mind and your emotions involved, rather than just mouthing the words, or singing in a mouse voice. That, first of all, is the distant context. But in the closer context, right at the end of verse 17, which we looked at last week, we see that the spirit mentioned in reference to the Sword, which is the Word of God.
So if you are going to pray in the Spirit, that means that to some degree, your prayers are going to be based on the Bible. That is always a good place to start you prayers. But what about the things that are Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies so cut and dry? What about the things which Scripture does not speak? For example, who you should marry. Where you should live. Whether you should move or not. What kind of job you should have.
But it not a very exciting prayer, because how do you know when God has answered you request? Let me try to bring us back. The answer is found in an understanding of what prayer is. Most of us have this idea that prayer is when we bow our heads, fold our hands, close our eyes, and make some sort of speech to God. But that is not what prayer is and not necessarily how Little Flo - Peter Cook & Dudley Moore Present Derek And Clive* - (Live) is done.
I like to think of prayer as a running conversation between God and the one doing the praying. This means Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies when we pray, we should behave as if we were talking to a friend who is always at our side. Think of the friends you do have. Or think of your spouse. When you first got to know the person, maybe you Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies it right off and had all sorts of things to talk about.
Or, maybe you Los Persuaders* - Tijuana trouble finding common ground between you and so some of the conversations were forced or repetitive. But after a while, as you continued to talk to one another and spend time together, you got to know each other better, and communication became easier.
It took less concentration. It could be done automatically. Sometimes, it could even be done without words. You knew what a person was thinking without having to talk to them. And furthermore, you became able to predict or know what a person thought or felt about a certain topic or issue even if you had never talked about it. This is the same way it works with prayer and the things which God says nothing about in his Word.
Part of this as well, is the illumination of the Spirit helping you to understand God and extrapolate Biblical principles into the various issues life throws you way. And as we pray this way, according to Biblical principles and in light of our developing relationship with God and the Spirit helping us in our prayers, that is when we are praying in the Spirit, as Paul mentions in verse Now, with that understanding, we come to realize why this is where the power in prayer comes from.
If you are praying in the Spirit, according to the Word of God, according to the will of God, then you can be certain that every single thing you pray for will be given to you. This is what Jesus promises in John when he says that if we ask for anything in his name, it will be given to us.
What Jesus means is that when we pray, if we pray for the things Jesus himself would pray for, if we pray as if Jesus is praying in us, if we come before the throne of God as if we are Christ—for in a sense we are, He is in us, we are in Him, we are His Body—then whatever we ask for will be granted. But we must be praying for the things Jesus would pray for, and He only prays for the things that are in the will of God. This is what 1 John says as well.
And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies asked of Him. John Wesley boldly stated that God does nothing but in answer to prayer. Prayer is an aspect of omnipotence that God has granted to us. The more we pray in the spirit, or according to the will of God, the more is accomplished. When God works in human history, and in our lives, prayer is one of the central variables God takes into consideration.
How were they praying? How much did they pray? What did they pray for? This is the incredible and unbelievable power of prayer. Prayer is our pipe-line to the power of God! These are the sorts of things that can happen when we pray. There truly is power in prayer. Christ has chosen to be Male with reference to His Bride so that not only He but she also will Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies in the glorious image of the invisible God.
The Lamb and His Bride are one. All that He is, she inherits. The battles against the cities of Canaan portray in type our struggle in the Spirit against our fleshly nature, the devil and his hordes, and the spirit of the age in which we live. The three elements within the Ark speak of the character that is formed in the Servant of the Lord. If we remain faithful to Christ through every trial we will receive authority and power over the nations and the entire material creation. The Day of Atonement is the day of reconciliation to God of all that has been alienated from Him through wickedness, treachery, deceit, perversity, and every other sin.
Phase Seven. The end of a successful battle against sin and rebellion is rest, peace, and the possession of good things and circumstances. In the days to come there will be battles until every rebellious spirit is destroyed out of me and you, out of the heavenlies, and out of the entire earth. Sin will be conquered in all saved persons everywhere. The result will be children of God who are in His image. Quietness, peace, and perfect rest and joy will prevail throughout the creation of God.
The presence of Satan brings unrest, striving, tension, pressure, sickness, weakness, confusion, disorganization, heartache, Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenliesfrantic activity, despair, gloom, pessimism, and every other evil work. Christ is coming as the Lion of Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenliesas King of kings and Lord of lords, to destroy out of the earth all who oppose Him. The entire realm of nature—people, animals, the vegetable and mineral creation—everything found worthy of eternal life will be reconciled to God during the thousand-year Jubilee.
Every crop God has sown in the earth will bear fruit, and the fruit will be harvested and dealt with appropriately by the Lord Jesus. (Vinyl, LP, LP), the new Jerusalem, coming to rest on a great high mountain of the new earth. She is perfect in every detail and the Throne of God and of the Lamb is in her. The new Jerusalem is the Church, the holy city, the center of government for the whole earth.
It is the dwelling place of God, the light of the world. God has finished His work and is now at rest. The descent of the holy city marks the end of the plan of redemption, the restoration of every particle of inheritance that has been tricked, stolen, taken by violence, or otherwise wrested from Adam and Eve and their descendants. There will be nothing lost except those spirits and people who have rebelled against Christ.
Every person and every thing of the creation we have known and cherished and that is worthy of the Kingdom of God will be brought forward in a glorified state, because God knows every detail concerning each of us. How long will it take you to praise God for His almighty goodness when you stand in your place and see what God has done in keeping intact all you hold dear? Will you ever have time enough to give Him your love and praise?
There was an eighth day of Tabernacles Leviticus The eighth day symbolizes the first day of the week of eternity, the week that has no end. After we all have had the opportunity to love and praise God and Christ for their goodness to us, and for the astonishing Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd - Miami Bell 94, power and love that has brought into being the reconciliation of the creation to God, we shall pass into the eighth day, the first day of eternity, and settle down to our endless On The Border - Al Stewart - Year Of The Cat of serving God and Christ forever.
We have just described the kingdom-wide fulfillment of the feast of Tabernacles. There is a personal fulfillment of Tabernacles at hand for Case Study - The Five Corners Quintet Featuring Mark Murphy - Chasin The Jazz Gone By Church of Christ.
After we have been reconciled to God by the blood of the cross, by the overcoming of sin through the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit, and by our obedience to God during problems and sufferings, continuing each day in obedience to the Word of God, then God and Christ will come to us and take up their abode with us to a much greater extent than we have experienced thus far John Christ dwells in our heart when we first receive salvation.
Christ is formed in us as we continue being ministered to and ministering to others. But there is coming to each victorious Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies a far greater indwelling of the Lizadrin - Super Deluxe - Lizadrin / Wilted & Faded and the Son, the indwelling typified by the feast of Tabernacles. In that day the Lord will be dwelling in the Church just as the Father dwells in Christ.
The Father and the Son are coming to dwell eternally in us. This is a personal coming, not the visible second coming of the Lord to the earth. The Lord Jesus will return to the earth exactly Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies promised, descending just as He ascended—in the sight of all people. We must do good works Galatians ; Colossians ; 2 Timothy ; that is, we must allow Jesus Christ to do good works through us.
Faith involves knowledge of the gospel Romansacknowledgment of the truth of its message, and personal reception of the Savior John Works cannot save Ephesiansbut good works always accompany salvation verse 10, James But while we perform good works, we still have no cause to boast about or glory in ourselves, because Paul goes on to explain in verse 10 that God has before ordained Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies good works for us to walk in them.
This means that God provides opportunities for us to do good works, and it is our duty to respond by allowing Christ to work these good works through us.
As we can see, all glory and praise belongs to God. It is true, as some commentaries point out, that when God calls us, He expects us to live a righteous life; Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies that in that sense, God has predetermined that His people should perform good works. God both makes ready by His providence the opportunities for the works, and makes us ready for their performance.
It is God who creates us anew. We are becoming a new creation through Him. Compare also 2 Corinthians and Galatians For instance, in Old Testament times, the stranger who lived in Israel and wanted to keep the Passover with Israel had to become circumcised.
Before the New Testament Church understood that circumcision was no longer required compare Acts5—9Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies uncircumcised person could become a member of the Church. As Paul says in verse 12, God gave Israel the covenants and the promises. We read in Romans — Christians—Jews and Gentiles—must become spiritual Israelites.
While physical circumcision is no longer important, spiritual circumcision is mandated. It is only those who are the true children of promise who belong to Israel Romans —8; Galatians This is true for ancient Israelites as well as Gentiles. Even though Jesus Christ—the God of the Old Testament—gave ancient Israel the law, the covenants and the promises, Israel turned their back on God, and they too became those without Christ, having no hope, and being without God in the world.
But this is especially true for Sampa - Various - The Number 1 Brazilian Album who did not even have physical access to the commonwealth of Israel and who were never parties to the covenants and recipients of the promises, and who did not even know the true God and who had no hope or knowledge of the resurrection see by comparison Psalm ; Joel ; Jeremiah ; Ezekiel — This was… once true of all who are now Christians.
They had no God. However, spiritual Israelites are the true seed of the fathers—Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; and the covenants of promises, as well as sonship, the law, and the glory, pertain to them. Many teach that Paul said Christ came to do away with the law of God, and they use scriptures like Ephesians or Colossians to prove their point. Sin is defined as the transgression of the law. Christ said He did not come to abolish the law.
He said that if we want to enter into life, we have to keep the commandments, and James said that if we break one of the commandments, we are guilty of having broken all of them. We see, then, that the word for ordinances or decrees was never used to describe laws that were given directly by God.
Render the entire passage [in Ephesians —15]: brake down the middle-wall of partitioneven the enmityby abolishing in His flesh the law of commandments contained in ordinances. For instance, the Bible speaks of the law of the sacrifices; the law of our sinful nature; the law of the Ten Commandments; the law of righteousness, etc.
Here, the reference to commandments consisting or contained in ordinances defines what law Paul is referring to. Rather, he is talking about human laws, commandments and decrees. These laws or ordinances included restrictive pharisaical decrees—inventions and traditions of men—as well as ascetic oppressive ordinances of Gentile philosophers.
In both cases, following these ordinances leads to sin, as they are contrary Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies the law of God. Christ said about the man-made rules of Judaism that people did away with the commandments of God in order to follow their own traditions Mark — Paul also said in Colossians that Christ blotted out the handwriting of ordinances, that was against us, and nailed it to the cross.
Paul is referring to the fact that Christ blotted out the handwriting in—or consisting in—ordinances which was against us. As he states in verse 14, these human laws had not only created enmity between God and manbut also between Jews and Gentiles. But Jesus Christ broke down and abolished that barrier through His supreme sacrifice. We also recall that the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom when Jesus died—indicating that all true Christians have direct access to the Father in heaven.
He has by that death removed all the obstacles to reconciliation on the part Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies God and on the part of man.
It is made efficacious in removing the enmity of the sinner against God, and producing peace. Verse 18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Verse 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God ; Verse 20 And are built upon the foundation of Scott Langley - I Want You To Know apostles and prophetsJesus Christ himself being Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies chief corner Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies ; Verse 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord: Verse 22 In whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit.
Since Christ removed the enmity and preached and gave peace to those who were near Jews and far off Gentiles compare verse 17all true Christians have access to the Father through the one and the same Spirit verse As such, they are no longer strangers and foreigners to the household of God, but fellow citizens with all the other saints verse This is especially true for Gentiles who were, as Paul had explained, cut off from the commonwealth of La Valigia Blu - Patty Pravo - Playlist. Christ is the chief corner stone of the building—He is the originator and finisher of the Church.
Nobody can lay any other foundation than the one, which is laid—Jesus Christ. God placed His people in the Church to be a part of the spiritual holy temple ; and they must individually grow so that the entire temple can grow—with everyone doing his or her part.
Those who hide their talents or refuse to place their light on the hill, but put it under a basket Matthewwill be cast out of the building. They are unprofitable servants who refuse to grow and bring fruit to be of value to others. They are not doing the good works, which God prepared beforehand for them that they should walk in them and carry them out. But if they are doing their part—growing and producing fruit for the benefit of others—they are being built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit Ephesians — They are collectively the temple of God, and they are also individually the temple or habitation of God.
Paul wrote this letter while imprisoned in Rome verse 1. He reminds the Gentiles that he was sent to them, after the Jews had rejected him and the gospel message, and that he was arrested because the Jews persecuted him.
He appealed to Caesar in Rome, and while he still communicated with the leaders of the Jews in Rome, he again made clear that due to their unbelief, he was sent to proclaim the gospel to the Gentiles Acts —19, 25— This understanding was a mystery verse 3and it had not been made known in the past.
Even the early New Testament Church had not understood, at first, that God had given the gift of repentance to Gentiles. But as verse 5 says, Kansas - Monolith God, through His Spirit, had made known this mystery to His holy apostles and prophets For instance, Paul and Barnabas were apostles and prophets, compare Acts ; —2. Other mysteries were, to an extent 1 Peter —12; compare Deuteronomy Paul also reminded the Ephesians in verse 6 that this truth is contained in the gospelwhich Jesus Christ preached and which is also to be found in the pages of the Old Testament, but in order to understand it, it must be revealed —the mystery of the gospel must be unlocked compare Ephesians To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of the mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in youthe hope of glory.
Paul also said in Ephesians that it was because of grace that he became a minister. In verse 8, Paul calls himself the least of all the saints. This is not just idle talk—Paul really meant it. He knew that before his conversion, he had persecuted the saints and caused their death, and he never forgot that. But as Ephesians says, Paul understood the miracle of grace. And so, Paul understood that God gave him grace or special favor to entrust him with preaching the gospel—and Feelings - Fausto Papetti - Grand Collection do so especially among the Gentiles.
God is willing to bestow both on His disciples. It is bestowed on them, by grace, not because of works. How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! New King James Bible. He knew, of course, that most would reject the gospel message, being blinded and deceived by the god of this world.
But that did not discourage him from preaching the Word, hoping that it would fall on fertile ground. In addition, Paul might have had foremost in mind the members of the church of God—all disciples should come to the understanding that there is neither Jew nor Greek, male nor female, slave nor free, but all are one in Christ.
He makes this point here, as he will soon be talking about the God Family in much more detail. Christ existed before He became a man—before the world was created. This statement is most Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies God uses His church to explain to angels the manifold wisdom of God! God the Father and Jesus Christ had purposed to create man, and they knew through all eternity that this purpose would have to include the Chicken Shack - Id Rather Go Blind of the Son so that man could attain eternal life.
Verse 13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. We can have boldness and access to God the Father with confidence, because it is the faith OF Jesus Christ—the very faith that Christ had and has—which dwells in us. Paul said in Ephesians that his suffering was their glory. Most gladly therefore I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Paul had to learn to become reliant on Christ, rather than self-reliant. Albert Barnes Notes on the Bible points out, regarding Ephesians You have occasion to rejoice that you have a friend who is willing thus to suffer for you; you have occasion to rejoice in all the benefits which will result to you from his trials in your behalf.
As they could glory in Paul, so Paul gloried in the faithful and loyal brethren, knowing that all of this was made possible through the grace and power of God working in all of them compare 1 Thessalonians — In verse 14, Paul recognizes the source of his power and strength, as well as the Originator of his salvation, and so he re-emphasizes the need to pray to God the Father —who is also the Father and God of our Lord Jesus Christ.
And so, the Family in heaven consists of God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son, and the family on earth consists of all spirit-begotten children or disciples of God. The angels are clearly not part of the God Family, as God is not reproducing Himself through angels. They all have one father, and are all of one community. Compare also Revelation And all this family is named — derives its origin and being, from Godas children derive their name from him who is the father of the family.
He wanted to bring children into His Family. Verse 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or thinkaccording Thanks Be To God - Various - War In The Heavenlies the power that worketh in us, Verse 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all agesworld without end. This new wave consisted of the fervent apologetics of one named Justin Martyr, who was then preaching and teaching in Rome.
Justin Martyr introduced a concept that was unheard of among earlier Christians, namely that Jesus Christ was "in the second place" to Father God. Second place? Thomas called Jesus "my Lord, and my God.
He was the single person of GOD embodied in flesh! Confusion was born. It was the germ form of trinitarianism. It totally contradicted the Apostles' premise that the Son was conceived by the Holy Ghost in the "fulness of time," and in fact, "made of woman," Galatians Conspicuously, at the same time the doctrine of the Church was being turned from its original and true belief that the fullness of God was in Christ, the Roman Empire stopped fighting the church and began embracing it.
Tertullian who was one of the first to use the word "trinity" in reference to God and Hippolytus of Rome succeeded in changing the mode of water baptism. Every baptism recorded in the New Testament had been performed "in the name of Jesus Christ," but Romans rabidly opposed that, and ultimately outlawed it. Suddenly, it was forbidden to baptize by the very formula the Apostles and the entire early church had used.
Only the titles were being used for the first time. Rome supplanted the true church with an impostor. Once the church was rendered powerless, the Roman government decided to declare it the official world religion, and set out to eliminate all conflicting points of view. Is that something Jesus Christ taught? I am come that ye might have LIFE! Without a comprehensive survey of the history of the Roman Empire, let it be said that the Prince of Rome succeeded in bringing down the Jewish nation at that time, persecuting the early church, and effectively perverting the principal dogmas of the church to the extent that the "church" was no longer the Church.
As if that was not enough, the "preaching of the Gospel" was restricted to the Latin language of Rome, and the Bible itself was prevented from falling into the possession of the masses.
But that is not all He has never yet been defeated!
