The Meisterwerk albums are compilations that contain previously released and rare material from My Dying Bride. At the end of the hiatus, Calvin Robertshaw left the band to become their tour manager and was replaced by Hamish Glencross.
Originally released inThe Dreadful Hours featured new material with the seventh release. The album was again engineered by Mags and co-produced by guitarist Andrew Craighan. Between andthe band's label, Peacevillere-released their entire back-catalogue in digipak format, with bonus tracks Follower - My Dying Bride - Meisterwerk III of demos, remixes, and live performances added to each release except "The Light at the End of the World". The band's next release came in Maywhen they released the fancifully titled Anti-Diluvian Chroniclesa fully-fledged best of box set featuring three discs and thirty tracks.

He described the lyrics as being about religion, passion, love, and loss. On 24 OctoberMy Dying Bride announced that they were in the studio recording their 12th full studio album Feel the Misery at Treadmill - The Indecision Alarm - The Indecision Alarm Studios in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, Follower - My Dying Bride - Meisterwerk III have finished 7 songs, but that it was more than likely not the finalized work.
On 18 Septemberfinalized Feel the Misery was released, with 8 tracks. On 1 Marchafter 27 years being with Peaceville Records, the band announced in a Facebook post that they had signed with Nuclear Blast Records, and already have plans for their next album and singles. The same year, drummer Dan Mullins left the band, and was replaced by a returning Shaun Taylor-Steelswho was previously in the band from toand had performed drums on A Map of All Our Failures in as a session member.
Inafter cancelling four festival appearances, Aaron Stainthorpe explained that the band was working on a new album, and had therefore not disbanded. If you are new to the band, this selection of tracks offers a good look at the many sides of the band's music, from the majestic "The Crown of Sympathy" to the stripped down beauty of "Two Winters No.6 1st Movement Largo - Frank Zappa - Francesco Zappa. Fifteen years have passed and Peaceville have now updated this presentation of My Dying Bride by adding a third disc, putting on display material from the band's post- The Dreadful Hours discography.
The band has always been creative and delivering consistent output, and have released no less than five studio albums, two live albums, one very special album and a number of EPs since then, so I guess it's impossible to make an entirely satisfactory "best of" from these last fifteen years. The songs are long, and there's only so much space on a CD.
And who decides which are the best songs anyway? I think they picked a few essential cuts; "The Wreckage of My Flesh" Songs of Darkness, Words of Light is a sublime piece of doom, perhaps their bleakest and most miserable effort across the entire discography; those screams in the beginning still Follower - My Dying Bride - Meisterwerk III me. I think they botched it when it comes to the remaining studio albums, however; "Feel the Misery" is arguably the weakest effort on the album Follower - My Dying Bride - Meisterwerk III the same namewhile "I Almost Loved You" from the same release doesn't really represent that album.
Beautiful and haunting as it is, it would be like telling people about Turn Loose the Swans and then play them "Black God". Additionally, I don't feel that "Bring Me Victory" is particularly representative of For Lies I Sire and it seems to me a wiser choice Over The Rainbow - Rainbow - Definitive Stafford include "My Body, a Funeral" to entice new potential fans, catchy as that one is.
Weirdly, both singles held an additional rare track "The Child of Eternity" and "Failure" respectively but they aren't to be found on Follower - My Dying Bride - Meisterwerk III IIIso one would still need to hunt down the singles to get to own these songs on disc. I'd definitely want to see "The Child of Eternity" in this sampler, as it is a fantastic and somewhat unusual original My Dying Bride composition, with great contrasts between raw death metal and some of the finest clean vocal melody lines in the band's discography.
